The process

How to register it through the ATF:

1. Choose a silencer: Browse through our collection of silencers and choose the one you want to purchase.

2. Contact an FFL: Find a FFL in your area that has a (SOT) Special Occupational Taxpayer and make sure they are willing to handle the transfer of the silencer for you.

3. Purchase the silencer: After you have selected the silencer and found an FFL to handle the transfer, complete the purchase process through our checkout page. It is important that the shipping info you plug in is your FFL where your transfer will take place.

4. Complete the transfer: Once you make the purchase, the silencer can be transferred from MMG silencers to your FFL. We will submit a Form 3 with the ATF to initiate the transfer to your FFL. This form transfers possession of the silencer from our company to your FFL while your paperwork is processed. Once the Form 3 has been approved by the ATF, we will ship the NFA item to your FFL. Your FFL will then complete the necessary paperwork to transfer your silencer to you.

5. Register for your ATF eforms account: Go to eForms (atf.gov) and register for your account to be able to file your form 4 digitally. This is the easiest and fastest process to conduct a transfer with your FFL you have chosen. You will fill your form 4 out with your FFL as well as submit your fingerprints either as an .eft file in the form 4 or send in 2 copies of the FD-258 to the address provided below. You can go to your local police or sheriff's department and have them fingerprint you. You will mail your fingerprints to: National Firearms Act Branch Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives P.O. Box 530298 Atlanta, GA 30353-0298

7. If your FFL has a silencer shop kiosk then you can complete your form for digitally with the kiosk and your dealer.

Documentation: After the payment, you will be required to submit documentation for the ATF Form 4, which includes fingerprint cards and passport style photos. Silencer Shop makes this step easy with digital fingerprint scanning and photo upload options.

ATF Application: Silencer Shop will then handle the process of submitting your information to the ATF. An approval process then begins, which can take several months.

6. Wait for approval: The ATF will review your paperwork and process your application before issuing a tax stamp. This is the longest part. You can find wait times here. Current Processing Times | Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (atf.gov) Just to note, if filling as an individual it will be quicker than filling as a trust but submit what works best for your situation.

7. Take possession: The ATF will notify your FFL that your paperwork has been approved. Once, notified this is when you can take possession of your new silencer and enjoy it at the range.
